Preparing Children for Hospital Visits: A Guide to "HC And"
Developed in collaboration with the Oncology Department at R. H.C. Andersen Children and Youth Hospital, hospitalized children, their families, and 10:30 Visual Communication, "HC And - When mother or father has cancer" offers crucial preparation for young patients (ages 4-7). This interactive resource aims to alleviate anxiety by explaining complex hospital procedures and terminology in a child-friendly manner.
"HC And" utilizes engaging animation and a child narrator, presented in a playful, interactive format suitable for tablets, mobile phones, and touchscreens. Recognizing that children in this age group grasp concepts best through play and concrete examples, the app presents information in short, digestible segments. This approach is particularly beneficial for children who may be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information surrounding a cancer diagnosis in the family.
The app features seven short, story-based modules covering cancer, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. These modules provide clear answers to common questions and can serve as a valuable educational tool for hospital staff, fostering a shared understanding between healthcare providers and young patients.
"HC And" is available for free download.
