Digital Revolution of Devarattam
This app, a product of my "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" project, is dedicated to several esteemed individuals: Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman, a retired teacher; Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar; and Kalaimamani Mr. K. Nelliai Manikandan, all from Zamin Kodangipatti, who were awarded the Kalaimamani, Kalaimamani, and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awards respectively, for their contributions to Devarattam. I also dedicate this app to my Guru, Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and the beloved legends of Devarattam.
The primary purpose of the Devarattam app is to promote and celebrate Devarattam and its awardees. The app features detailed descriptions of Devarattam and its prominent figures.
Devarattam is a traditional folk dance of Tamil Nadu, performed both historically and presently by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. While the dance boasts 32 to 72 steps, the foundation comprises 32 basic movements, with the remaining steps serving as variations.
Devarattam dancers gracefully perform, each holding a kerchief in each hand and adorned with salangai (ankle bells) on their legs, accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional musical instrument.
